²³ But if there is further ·injury [harm], then ·the punishment that must be paid is [^Lyou shall give] life for life, ²⁴ eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, ²⁵ burn for burn, wound for wound, and bruise for bruise [^Cto guard against excessive punishment].
